CRA was invited to the Governor’s bill signing on Tuesday of this week.  Standing with the Governor (seated) are (from left), Ed Noyola, CRA Deputy Director; Jim Iwanicki, engineer-manager, Marquette County Road Commission and CRA Executive Committee; Denise Donohue, CRA director; Steve Warren, managing director, Kent County Road Commission and CRA President; and Christina Strong, CRA communication manager.  The bill provides $175 million dollars this fiscal year in one-time supplemental funding for Michigan’s roads.

The additional funding in FY 2018-19 budget was proposed in the Governor’s State of the State in January, with the House Speaker recommending shortly thereafter that the funds be advanced yet this fiscal year.  This one-time $175 million revenue shot-in-the-arm is not related to the 2015 Transportation Package; it is surplus General Fund revenue not expended in the FY 2016-2017 budget.  Donohue was asked to present and spoke on behalf of county road agencies.
