LETTER: Roadside cleanup

Over the last couple of weeks, spring, in all its flowering glory, has finally emerged and delicately colored our country roadside drives with daffodils, redbud trees, tulip trees, dogwood, and the early greening of many other trees and shrubs.

But there is evidence of one other beautiful contribution that would be too easy to overlook because it occurred subtly, quickly and without fanfare. That is the dedicated volunteerism of the numerous 4-H groups, families, churches, businesses, schools and many other community groups who, through the Cass County Road Commission’s Adopt-A-Road program, did the thankless, but much appreciated task of roadside clean up after a long winter that left so much  trash, garbage and debris marring our roadside landscapes.

Thank you to all who put in the numerous hours of  back breaking physical labor and energy these past few weeks so that all of us who live, work, play and/or visit this great county can fully enjoy the gorgeous landscapes and striking vistas that greet us around every country bend.

Thank you to our Cass County Road Commission for providing the special trash bags, safety vests, as well as the pick-up and disposal of all of these bags and large items once the volunteers have completed their pick-up efforts.

While signs have been erected at each location to honor these many volunteer groups, let’s all take a moment when we cross paths with these neighbors and friends to thank them for their generous dedication of time and effort in keeping Cass County the stunningly beautiful county it is.
